BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An accused gun toting bicycle bandit is behind bars on charges of armed robbery, attempted murder and attempted murder of a police officer.

It happened around midnight Thursday in the parking lot of a nightclub on North Acadian. Police say 20-year-old Ryan Jones robbed a woman at gunpoint, taking her purse. The probable cause report says Jones took off on his bicycle and when the woman tried to follow him in her vehicle, he fired a shot and took off running.

A nearby officer saw Jones running from the area with a gun in his hand. The officer tried to stop Jones, and according to the probable cause report, Jones fired a single shot at the officer as he tried to run away.

The reports states "fearing that [the officer] may be shot, the officer accelerated, struck the defendant with his marked police unit, and was able to detain [Jones] at that location without further incident."

Jones is being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a $125,000 bond.
