Separate fires destroy 2 homes on New Year's Eve

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Fire crews were quite busy on New Year's Eve due to two separate house fires that started within only minutes of each other.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department said the first fire started in a home in the 1000 block of North 47th Street just after 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Firefighters believe it started in some electrical equipment at the front of the home.

While crews were still dealing with the first fire, a home on North 30th Street caught fire.

The homeowner there thinks it may have started in a window air conditioning unit.

No one was hurt in either fire, but both houses were a total loss.
