NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX 8) - Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that left an unidentified man dead on New Year's Day.
The New Orleans Police Department said it happened just after 10 a.m. in the 2300 block of North Prieur Street in the St. Roch neighborhood of New Orleans.
Investigators said the victim's identity will be released once family members are notified.
Police said responding officers arrived on scene to find the man lying on the sidewalk, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
He was pronounced dead on the scene.
Detectives are gathering information and evidence to find the person(s) responsible as well as a motive.
