BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Those planning to venture to downtown Baton Rouge during the day on New Year's Eve may see some long lines at City Hall, as Tuesday is the deadline for people to pay property taxes.
Many people lined up outside the tax office of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office trying to get their bills paid before the New Year.
The long waits are nothing new to the men and women who work behind the desks, but workers said the lines were almost non-existent a few days ago.
"Just a few people, but we knew it was coming because every year, at the last minute, they will come in and stand in lines all day," said Octave Anthaume, EBRSO tax director.
The tax office opens at 8:30 a.m. and closes at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Payments can also be made online.
