METAIRIE, LA (FOX8) - A man and woman from Tennessee are dead and the search is underway for two gunmen after an early morning shooting in Louisiana that investigators believe was drug-related.
The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said the shooting happened near an apartment complex in Metairie near I-10 and Clearview Parkway. The victims were identified as Demektric Whitfield-Anderson and Tacara Williams, both of Memphis, TN.
JPSO spokesman Glen Boyd said Whitfield-Anderson, Williams and another woman were staying at the Super 8 on Clearview Parkway when Whitfield-Anderson either made or received a phone call. He said the trio then drove to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Pasadena Avenue.
According to Boyd, two men approached the car and started talking to Whitfield-Anderson, who was driving. He added Whitefield-Anderson then started backing up to leave the scene and the two men opened fire on the car.
Boyd said Whitfield-Andersen was shot multiple times and taken to East Jefferson General Hospital, where he died. He added Williams, the front passenger, died in the car. Boyd said the second woman, who was in the back seat, wasn't injured.
The investigation is ongoing.
