DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) - Authorities have identified the pedestrian found on LA Hwy 1026 (Juban Road) early Monday morning as 27-year-old Devin Hammond.
Louisiana State Police say Devin I. Hammond of Baton Rouge was hit by a vehicle while walking along Juban Road just after 8 p.m. Sunday night.
State Police say a Denham Springs man called authorities after he hit what he thought was a garbage can on Juban Road. When LSP arrived, they couldn't find the object that the driver hit.
Around 7 a.m. Monday, LSP was notified by a pedestrian of a body found lying in a deep overgrown ditch off of Juban Road. State Police say Hammond was walking partially in the roadway and wearing dark clothing when he was struck.
The roadway was closed for three hours Monday morning to preserve the scene of the crime and for lab technicians to investigate.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office reported Juban was closed from Florida Boulevard to I-12. It reopened just before 11 a.m.
Louisiana State Police say Hammond's family has been notified. The driver of the pickup truck was not cited in the crash and impairment is not suspected.
