BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man has been arrested after he attempted to rob a gas station on Perkins Road, but says he was just kidding.

Baton Rouge Police say Cory Michael Berthelot, 22, went to the Valero Gas Station on Friday and presented the clerk with an item to purchase. When the clerk opened the cash drawer, Berthelot allegedly moved closer to the window and ordered, "Give me all of your money." Police say that he then pulled up his jacket, as if he were revealing a weapon.

The probable cause report states the clerk told police that she feared for her life and slammed the drawer shut. She told them that Berthelot began screaming and cursing at her before he entered the passenger side of a car and left. The clerk was able to get the license plate on the vehicle and disclose the information to authorities.

When officers arrived, they noticed a car in a parking lot near the scene. When they approached the vehicle, there were two people in the car- one of them matching Berthelot's description.

The clerk positively identified Berthelot as being suspect who attempted to rob her. According to the probable cause report, Berthelot "advised that he did tell the victim to give him the money, but claimed that it was a 'joke'."

Berthelot was booked into the EBR Parish Prison for 1st degree attempted robbery. His bond was set at $20,000.
