Slidell Police arrest suspect for shooting that killed 2, injured 6

SLIDELL, LA (WAFB) - A man was arrested in connection to a shooting that occurred at a bar in Slidell earlier this week that left 2 people dead and six seriously injured.

Jamieon Chatman, 22, was arrested at a residence in Vermilion Parish by the Slidell Police and other authorities. He was transported back to Slidell early Saturday morning.

A $7,500 reward was being offered for information that lead to the arrest of Chatman.

The shooting that occurred outside of a bar at roughly 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26.

"I cannot be more proud of our investigators identifying this individual and having him in custody so quickly," said Chief Randy Smith, Slidell Police Department, "Although we have experienced an increase in violent criminal activity, Slidell is still a very safe place; it always has been and always will be."

Witnesses told police that the shooting happened after a fight broke out near the intersection located in Olde Town Slidell. Eight people were struck by bullets. Errol Scott, 22, was pronounced dead at the scene. Mark Womack, 23, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Chief Randy Smith went on to say, "I would also like to thank the numerous law enforcement agencies that assisted us with this investigation; particularly the U.S. Marshals and the Louisiana State Police. They were instrumental in helping us apprehend our suspect early this morning. We also worked closely with the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office, Covington Police Department, and Crimestoppers throughout the course of our investigation."

Police report that the investigation is still ongoing, and more arrests are expected to be made relating to this case. No other information is available at this time.
