BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge man is accused of shooting his neighbor after accusing him of slashing a tire.
The incident happened on Thursday, Dec. 26 shortly after midnight. Both the victim and the suspect, Roosevelt Jimerson, 49, are residents of Colonial Terrace Apartments, which is located on Wooddale Blvd.
"The victim stated [that Jimerson] lives in the apartment just above him and that night [he] confronted him accusing him of slashing one of the tires on his wife's vehicle," the investigating officer noted in the arrest report. "After a short verbal argument the victim stated [Jimerson] was standing so close to him he shoved him away stating, 'No, No, No man, I didn't have anything to do with it.' At that time [Jimerson] pulled out a gun and fired a single shot that struck the victim in the abdomen."
Jimerson allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. However, they located two witnesses and they both confirmed the victim's statement.
At roughly 1:00 p.m., Jimerson turned himself in to police at BRPD's 1st District Precinct. During questioning he declined to comment without his lawyer present.
Jimerson was arrested and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. He is charged with attempted second-degree murder and illegal use of a weapon. His bond is set at $100,000.
