Deputies: Man shoots at law enforcement during chase

GREENSBURG, LA (WAFB) -

A man is in custody after he allegedly fired several shots at law enforcement officers during a high speed chase from Mississippi into Louisiana Thursday.

The St. Helena Parish Sheriff's Office said Dennis Morgan carjacked a vehicle in Gloster, MS, Thursday morning, fired at police officers multiple times and drove off in the vehicle.

Officials said the supect was chased across the state line into Louisiana and continued to Greensburg. According to investigators, the suspect exchanged gunfire with deputies, but was eventually apprehended.

Morgan was booked into the St. Helena Parish Jail on charges of attempted murder of a police officer (2 counts) and convicted felon with a firearm. He will face additional charges in Mississippi.

Officials said the case was turned over to Louisiana State Police.
