Family and friends of man gunned down in own driveway hold candlelight vigil

DONALDSONVILLE, LA (WAFB) - While police continue to search for suspects in the murder of a man, his family and friends gathered with heavy hearts Tuesday night to remember him.

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office said Quincy Nicholas, 34, of Donaldsonville, was gunned down in his own driveway early Sunday morning. His family held an anti-violence vigil in his memory on Christmas Eve.

Dozens stood united in prayer and while those close to Nicholas are hoping those responsible for his death will be found, their message is still one of compassion.

"Regardless of who did it, we're going to pray for them," said Ebony Payton, the victim's cousin. "We're going to pray for their family because they not only hurt the victim, they hurt his mother, they hurt his family, so I would ask them to pray for us because we're going to pray for them because their family is going to hurt just like ours."

Detectives are urging anyone who might have any information about the Donaldsonville shooting to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
