PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 19, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- The Portland Aquarium staff decided to spread the holiday spirit by gifting 100 Annual Family Passes to less fortunate families during the holiday season. Portland churches, individuals and local nonprofits are being asked to submit the names of families they would like to nominate for the "Annual Family Pass" giveaway.
Recently the Portland Aquarium received hundreds of nominations via email and the Portland Aquarium Facebook page. The staff reports that they were touched, moved and inspired by many messages including the following note that was left on the Portland Aquarium Facebook page. "I would like to nominate my sister (name withheld) she just left an abusive relationship after 3 years and has a soon to be 3yr old that would love to visit the aquarium...She's left with almost nothing and I would love this for them to show there's good people out there and good things do still happen to those that deserve better."
Most of the messages received are in line with the purpose of the give-away, which was summed up in a quote by owner Vince Covino who said, "We know there are children in our community who may not have gifts for the holidays. That is why we are asking, individuals, local churches and nonprofits to submit a list of up to 10 families who may not be able to afford gifts otherwise."
Local churches and nonprofits are encouraged to contact the aquarium through the Portland Aquarium contact page, http://www.portlandaquarium.net/contact/.
Nominations can also be made on the https://www.facebook.com/portlandaquarium page.
