LIVINGSTON, LA (WAFB) -

A man has been sentenced for his role in a violent drive-by purse snatching in 2012 that resulted in the victim getting dragged.

Ricky Anthony Jr., 31, of Tickfaw, will spend 15 years behind bars after pleading guilty to second-degree robbery on December 11.

Anthony admitted to leaning out of a window and grabbing an elderly woman's purse on Nov. 5, 2012. The victim suffered minor injuries when she was pulled to the ground and dragged at least 100 feet.

The attack happened while the woman was trying to load groceries into her vehicle in the parking lot of the Walmart in Denham Springs.

Chasidy Carpenter, 23, also of Tickfaw, was previously convicted of second-degree robbery. She was the driver during the attack.

A judge sentenced her to the maximum punishment allowed of 40 years in prison. District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said she must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence before she is eligible for parole.

According to Perrilloux, the purse got hooked on the victim's shoulder, so she had to run alongside the car. He added Carpenter then sped up to the point where the woman couldn't keep up with the car. She fell and was dragged through the parking lot until the purse strap broke.
