(RNN) - One of the cooling systems aboard the International Space Station may require a spacewalk to repair the unit.

NASA spokesman Josh Byerly reported to NBC that cooling system failure isn't life-threatening, and sorting through the issue may take a few days.

However, normal operations have been reduced.

If a spacewalk is required, it will be the first since the helmet of Luca Parmitano, an Italian astronaut, filled with water in August, almost drowning him.

Currently, there are six astronauts on the Space Station; three Russians, Oleg Kotov, Sergey Ryazanskiy and Mikhail Tyurin; two Americans Michael Hopkins and Richard Mastracchio; and Koichi Wakata of Japan.
