BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - FBI agents converged on a charter school in Baton Rouge Wednesday under a cloud of secrecy. An FBI spokesperson confirmed the federal agency is investigating a matter at Kenilworth Science & Technology Charter School, 7600 Boone Avenue.
The spokesperson declined to give specifics other than to say it does not involve a matter of public safety.
WAFB Reporter Nick Foley reported from the scene that FBI agents removed several boxes from the school and loaded them into a van, shortly after 5 p.m.
The charter school, operated by Pelican Educational Foundation, recently received a five year extension of its charter from the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. Mark Lambert, a spokesman for the charter school, also declined to give specifics of the FBI probe.
Lambert says the school was a failing school prior to being taken over by Pelican in 2010. Lambert says Pelican has taken the school from an "F" rating to a "C" rating in the most recent state rankings.
Deputies with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's were also on the school campus Wednesday, assisting the FBI.
