BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is reminding home owners and others to apply for the citizens' insurance rebate when tax time comes around.
Property insurance policy holders are entitled to get a tax credit or cash rebate on the citizens assessment. Donelon says the 2009 tax credit will expire at the end of the year, and so far there is $59 million left on the table.
"At the end of each year I remind homeowners that this money is available and waiting to be claimed. Right now about 53 percent of the available money for 2009 remains unclaimed," said Donelon.
If the money is not claimed by insurance policy holders it will automatically go into the state general fund.
