DARROW, LA (WAFB) -

A car crash in Ascension Parish has claimed the life of a Mississippi resident on Saturday evening, December 7th.

According to Louisiana State Police TFC Jared L. Sandifer of Troop A, just before 5:30 p.m., Troopers began investigating a single vehicular crash that killed 47-year-old Frankie L. Glaskox of Lucedale, MS.

Sandifer reports the accident happened in Darrow, La. on LA Hwy 942 (River Rd.) just east of La Hwy 22. Glaskox was driving a 2009 Nissan pickup truck, heading eastbound on LA Hwy 22, when his vehicle veered off to the right of the roadway after he "failed to negotiate a left hand curve."

Glaskox overcorrected his vehicle towards the left and crossed back over both traveling lanes of the road. The vehicle then ran off to the left side, where it entered into a ditch and hit a tree.

According to the police report,  Glaskox was not wearing a seatbelt a the time of the crash. Investigators do not believe impairment was a factor; however, a toxicology sample was taken and sent to the LSP Crime Lab for testing.

The report also disclosed that speeding may have been a factor in the crash.

The Office of LSP Superintendent Col. Michael D. Edmondson released the following statement:

"Louisiana State Troopers wish to remind motorists of the importance of seatbelt use. Louisiana law requires that every person in a motor vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Statistics show that the chances of surviving a violent crash rise significantly when properly restrained. Taking the time to buckle up before every trip is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself in a crash."
