BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Ex-LSU running back Jeryl Brazil has turned himself in to authorities after a warrant was issued for his arrest in connection with a burglary in the Baton Rouge area.

The Baton Rouge Police Department issued a warrant for Brazil's arrest Thursday. The former freshman running back is being charged with simple burglary of an inhabited dwelling, which is a felony. A simple burglary conviction carries a maximum of 12 years in prison and a fine of up to $2,000.

According to the arrest report, Brazil is accused of breaking into an apartment on November 23 around 6 a.m. and stealing $47. The report said the victim's girlfriend woke up to find Brazil leaving the apartment. Surveillance video was examined and the warrant states Brazil was seen entering and leaving the apartment.

Brazil was suspended indefinitely from the football team after being arrested in October for battery and damaging a woman's apartment. Brazil was issued a misdemeanor summons for simple criminal damage to property and simple battery for the most recent incident.

The Loranger-native was issued a misdemeanor summons in September for an alleged fight that happened outside an on-campus dining hall. During that incident, Brazil was disciplined internally and did not play in the football game against Kent State.

Brazil was kicked off the LSU football team once police issued the warrant for his arrest in connection with the latest burglary allegations.

Brazil had two carries for 10 yards on the season.
