CONVENT, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators are trying to find a woman who may have details about a deadly crash.

Louisiana State Police said their investigation into a wreck near Convent the day before Thanksgiving revealed one witness left the scene before troopers arrived.

Griselda Davis, 48, of Gonzales, died in the accident. Elaine Lewis, 46, of St. James, suffered serious injuries. Troopers said one witness told them a woman was driving a car behind one of the cars involved in the crash.

"The unidentified female stopped her vehicle after the crash and made several interesting comments to bystanders as to what may have caused the crash," Tpr. Jared Sandifer stated in a written release.

He added it is believed the woman may live out of state, but hopes she told family members in the area about the wreck. He said troopers want to talk to her to help bring closure to the families of those who were in the accident.

The crash happened on LA 70 west of LA 3125 near Convent in St. James Parish around 11:30 p.m. on November 27.

State Police reported the initial investigation into the crash showed the 2003 Ford Taurus that Lewis was driving crossed the center line and hit Davis's 2013 Volkswagen Jetta head-on. Investigators have not determined what caused the Taurus to cross the center line.

Davis was flown by helicopter to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, where she died from her injuries. Lewis remains hospitalized, but her exact condition was not given.

Troopers said both women were wearing seatbelts and impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. Blood samples were taken from both drivers per standard protocol in deadly wrecks. The samples were sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Anyone with information about what happened is urged to call Louisiana State Police Troop A at 225-754-8500 or their local law enforcement agency.

The crash remains under investigation.
