BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A non-student was tased by LSU Police last week after he ran from officers and allegedly attacked them upon capture.

The incident happened on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at roughly 4:00 p.m. Officials say officers came in contact with the suspect, Jamie Allen Rigmaiden, 23, during a traffic stop.

"The officer observed a vehicle traveling southbound on Nicholson Drive make an illegal lane change, at which time he initiated a stop," Cpt. Cory Lalonde, LSU Police Department, explained. "Upon stopping the vehicle on Nicholson, he observed that Rigmaiden was extremely nervous."

At one point the officer claims Rigmaiden reached into his pocket and removed an item.

"That's when he pulled away and placed the object in his mouth," Cpt. Lalonde said. "He then ran from officers."

The officers believe Rigmaiden swallowed a small amount of marijuana.

"After a short pursuit, officers caught up to him and he began to physically resist officers," Cpt. Lalonde added. "During the altercation he struck both officers."

An officer used his stun gun to subdue Rigmaiden. He was then arrested and charged with Resisting an Officer, Battery of a Police Officer (2 counts), Obstruction of Justice, and Improper Lane Usage. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and was released after posting a $10,500 bond.
