Gamecocks jump in AP Poll, Clemson falls

COLUMBIA, SC (TheBigSpur.com) South Carolina rose two spots in the latest Associated Press Poll released on Sunday morning. The Gamecocks, ranked No. 8 in the new poll, defeated Clemson 31-17 on Saturday night at Williams-Brice Stadium.

South Carolina has won five straight games against rivals Clemson and finished five spots ahead in the final AP Poll of the regular season.

Clemson fell seven spots in the AP poll to No. 15.

The Gamecocks (10-2) have been ranked 62 consecutive weeks in the poll, which extends their school record-long streak. South Carolina is tied with Stanford for fifth-longest current streak of being ranked in the AP Top 25.

There is a new No. 1, and it isn't an SEC team, after Alabama dropped its first game of the season with a 34-28 loss to Auburn. FSU is the new top team in the country, according to the AP Poll.

The Crimson Tide dropped three spots and are now ranked No. 4 in the country. With the win, the Tigers leapfrogged their rivals and are the new No. 3 team nationally, which is a rise of one spot in the polls.

The third-best team in the conference is also a Tigers team. Missouri, with its SEC East-clinching victory over Texas A&M on Saturday night at home, stayed fifth in the country and did not jump Alabama. The Aggies, in what could have been quarterback Johnny Manziel's last regular season game, dropped from No. 19 to No. 22 to end the regular season.

LSU entered the weekend No. 15 nationally and needed almost every second on the clock to knock off SEC-winless Arkansas on Friday afternoon at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers finish the regular season 9-3 overall and the No. 14 ranking.

Georgia, with a comeback victory over rivals Georgia Tech, finished the regular season ranked No. 25 in the AP Poll.

Two teams from out of conference - No. 13 Clemson and No. 15 UCF - also finished ranked in the regular season. The Gamecocks were 3-1 against teams that finished ranked in the top 25.
