Thanksgiving Day fire destroys family's trailer home while they're away

BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A family is displaced after fire destroyed their home on Thanksgiving.

The Baker Fire Department said a trailer caught fire on Jefferson Street in Baker around 6 p.m. No one was home at the time.

Howard Ward with BFD reported one of the people who lives in the trailer was returning from visiting friends and saw flames shooting out from under the trailer.

He said firefighters made it to the scene within minutes and quickly got the fire under control. One firefighter cut his hand on a piece of glass.

The Red Cross was called out to assist the family of six.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.

The Zachary Fire Department, Brownsfield Fire Department and District 6 Fire Department assisted.

According to Ward, the injured firefighter was with the Zachary Fire Department. He was treated at the scene initially and then taken to the emergency room after the fire was brought under control.
