A Lafayette man has died in a shooting early Thursday morning, and police are looking for the suspect.
According to Lafayette Police Chief Jim Craft, detectives have issued an arrest warrant of 2nd degree murder for Wilmar Fernandez Ramirez, 30, of Lafayette, La.
Chief Craft reports that authorities arrived at around 2:30 a.m. at an apartment located on the 3600 block of West Congress Street where they discovered the body of a 41-year-old man lying dead in the hallway. Police say witnesses told them that the victim was involved in a disturbance with Ramirez when Ramirez allegedly produced a handgun and shot the victim, then fled from the apartment.
The victim's name has not been released.
Detectives are unsure about Ramirez's whereabouts, but ask that anyone with any information is urged to contact the U.S. Marshal's Violent Offenders Task Force at 337-281-8236.
