BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

The Baton Rouge Police, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, and at least two other law enforcement agencies swarmed the Magnuson Hotel off of Airline at I-12 early Thursday morning looking for 22-year-old Jessie Gordon.

Loraine Murtishaw, Gordon's grandmother, says she doesn't know much about the incident. "All I know is that Jessie took his own life," she says.

It's a difficult time for Gordon's grandmother, processing how her grandson died.  But she admits her grandson had a history with the law.

"He'd been into a lot of trouble. He had spent some time in jail. He had recently started getting into trouble again," says Murtishaw.

Deputies in East Baton Rouge say Gordon was facing charges for illegal possession of stolen things and was a suspect in several burglary cases.

According to Denham Springs Police Chief Scott Jones, Gordon led them on a chase. He was wanted in Denham Springs for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia, in addition to other charges.

The  Livingston Sheriff's  Office also had active warrants out on Gordon- one for theft of a firearm and the other for simple burglary, but they declined to give our news crew more details.

A tip that Gordon was inside a room at the Magnuson Hotel, created a huge law enforcement turnout. Each agency was trying to serve their warrant when things took a dramatic turn. They heard a gunshot inside the room Gordon was believed to be in.

A deputy from EBR shot back. Bullet shrapnel injured both a deputy and a state trooper. Investigators are now trying to determine whose gunfire injured the officers.

Inside the hotel room, Gordon was found dead.

Murtishaw commented, "We thought he was getting his life together, but it just didn't work that way."

This investigation is still ongoing.
