PERRYSBURG, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police presence has increased in a Perrysburg neighborhood Thursday, after a 10-year-old boy was approached by a stranger around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say the boy was walking down a street in the Brookhaven subdivision of Perrysburg, when a man in a black SUV or pickup truck stopped next to him and told him to get inside. When the boy declined, the driver asked a second time, but the boy ran home. The vehicle then left the area.

Parents in the neighborhood say what they're feeling is something they don't want to experience again. As a result, police have increased patrols, hoping to ease parents' fears and make sure children make it home safely.

"Knowing that I have three small children, and we're commonly out in the neighborhood, and I just felt really uncomfortable knowing that happened in our neighborhood so close," said Trisha Drossman.

The boy's mother says her son's life was saved because of what he learned in Safety Town, a city program that teaches basic safety education to students. The lesson on stranger danger proved to be potentially lifesaving for one 10-year-old boy.

Police are still searching for the suspect, but no further descriptions are available at this time. If you notice anything suspicious in your neighborhood, call your local police department.
