LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - New construction will change the skyline near the Twin Spires and Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. A company is building student housing near University of Louisville's campus. However, it isn't a university-funded project.

Campus Crest Communities is developing The Grove at Louisville on a 7,290 square foot property with multi-story apartments and a 5-floor parking garage along South 4th Street between Industry Road and Winkler Ave.

The apartments will house up to 650 students.

"We'll only house UofL students and we'll require their student ID to apply or proof their applying to the university," said Royesha Gibson, a sales manager for The Grove. "Outsiders will not be allowed."

The result will impact traffic near Churchill Downs and University of Louisville.

"You can't stop the flow of 4th Street," said Eric Smith, the project manager. "It's a major artery so we're just going to add another lane and another sidewalk."

As a result, the additional lane will allow buses to pull off and pick up riders to alleviate additional vehicles on the roadway.

"It's going to be a complete rebuilding of this whole area," Smith said.

Metro traffic engineers said signals at 4th Street and Winkler Avenue will also be calibrated for left turns to avoid yielding vehicles and possible accidents.

The Grove at Louisville is scheduled to be completed by August 2014.
