Sorry Cowboys fans: DMV recalled RGIII license plate

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

A photo of a questionable Virginia license plate had some asking how the DMV could allow such a plate on the roads. It turns out the plate has been removed by the department months ago.

The plate read "F RG3" and the photo circulating online showed it on an SUV with a Cowboys helmet, hinting that perhaps the owner wasn't a fan of the Redskins quarterback.

The Virginia DMV tweeted to the sender that it would look into the plate. The department says it was recalled back in July and put it on their no-issue list.

"When any plate is recalled, a customer is notified and mailed a new set of replacement active plates. Customers are asked to turn the recalled plates back into DMV within 30 days," wrote DMV spokesperson Sunni Brown.
