BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 13-year-old boy from Baton Rouge was shot in the chest early this morning at a home in Lafayette. Detectives have not yet determined a motive or suspect for the shooting.
According to the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, the shooting happened in the 300 block of Calypso at roughly 1:19 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20. We're told the teen was standing outside of the home when he was shot in the torso area.
"He is from Baton Rouge, but he came here with an adult to visit a girl he met on Facebook," Capt. Kip Judice, Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office, explained. "From what we understand, he was not planning on staying the entire night. They drove in yesterday evening and were planning on returning to Baton Rouge."
The teen was transported to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
"We don't know what would have precipitated the shooting," Capt. Judice said. "Detectives are still interviewing witnesses and working the crime scene."
