HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - A 21-year-old woman from Hammond was taken into custody and charged with DWI, improper lane usage and child restraint violation.

Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Deputies say they tried to pull over a silver Mustang Happywooods Rd. around 4 p.m. Tuesday. The driver, Keori Jones, was speeding in the Mustang when it crossed the center lane of traffic, skid about 44 feet before it left the roadway, sideswiped a telephone pole and stopped in a large set of bushes.

The deputy reports that when he spoke to Jones, her breath smelled of alcohol and he believed she may have been impaired.

Jones and her young child in the backseat of the Mustang were not restrained at the time of the crash.

Deputies say Jones "performed poorly" during the field sobriety test and she was taken into custody and charged. Neither the mother or child were injured during the crash and the child was left in the custody of a family member.
