HAMMOND, LA (WAFB) - A man indicted with second-degree murder last week was arrested for the crime Monday.
Cody Watts, 22, of Hammond, is charged in the death of Meghan Lopez, 21, of Slidell, in April. A Tangipahoa Parish grand jury indicted him Friday.
Court officials said Lopez died after ingesting a synthetic form of LSD she was allegedly given by Watts.
According to Louisiana law, a person can be charged with second-degree murder when they give or sell a Schedule I or Schedule II controlled dangerous substance which is the direct cause of death of the person who took the drugs.
If convicted of second-degree murder, Watts faces life in prison.
