WATSON, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a woman is dead after losing control of the car she was driving and getting thrown out of it Tuesday night.

Louisiana State Police reported Lena Johnson, 51, of Denham Springs, died in a single-vehicle crash on Cane Market Road (LA 1024) east of LA 16 near Watson shortly before 10:30 p.m.

Troopers said their investigation so far shows Johnson was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala westbound on Cane Market when she lost control in a curve.

They said the car went off the road and into a ditch, where it hit a culvert and went airborne.

According to investigators, Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car.

LSP said impairment is not considered a factor in the crash, but per protocol in deadly wrecks, a sample of her blood was sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

Troopers added they have not determined what caused the driver to lose control of the car.
