BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An American White Pelican was caught in a trot line Monday at LSU Lakes, and the community sprang into action to notify authorities.
Numerous calls were made to WAFB, East Baton Rouge Animal Control and the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
It is migrating season for the white Pelicans. The hundreds of pelicans have literally stopped traffic on I-10 and around the LSU Lakes when they're landing and taking off.
This particular pelican was injured while it was caught in the trot line. According to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, one of the wings on the Pelican was "pretty torn up."
The Pelican was rescued by EBR Animal Control. Officials drove a boat to the trapped animal cut it free.
Animal Control then took the pelican to the LSU Vet School for treatment.
