Woman held on $100K bond for death of unborn baby due to cocaine use

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge woman who was wanted for feticide was arrested late Friday evening by Police.

According to prison records, Princess Beachem, 32, was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of second-degree feticide. Her bond is set at $100,000.

"The investigation began after she went to the hospital [on Sept. 18] seeking medical attention for abdominal cramps," Cpl. Don Coppola, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. "She was 7 months pregnant, but when medical staff examined her, they didn't hear a heartbeat for the baby. An emergency C-section was performed and they delivered a still-born child. She later admitted to using cocaine because the father of their child ended their relationship."

The East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office conducted an autopsy and investigation regarding the cause of death. However, Beachem was arrested on Oct. 8 for unrelated charges. It happened before a warrant for her arrest from the feticide investigation.

Beachem was released from the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on Oct. 24. Her charges include, but are not limited to, possession of marijuana, drinking in a motor vehicle, and aggravated battery.
