Off-duty sheriff's deputy dies in motorcycle crash

HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of a deputy who died in an off-duty motorcycle crash Thursday evening.

Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said Taylor Segura, 23, of Houma, was in a crash near the Southland Mall in west Houma around 7 p.m.

He added Segura's motorcycle collided with a vehicle that was leaving the mall parking lot.

Segura was taken to Terrebonne General Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Larpenter reported Segura had been with the sheriff's office for five years. He started at the Terrebonne Parish Criminal Justice Complex in 2008 and had transferred to the patrol division two years ago.

Larpenter said Segura left behind a wife.

Louisiana State Police is investigating the crash.
