BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - If you didn't cast your ballot during early voting, the regular election happens Saturday and there are several important items up for a vote for people in the area.
One of the biggest ballot items for people in and around the Baton Rouge area is the 5th Congressional District runoff. The election that's gotten the most attention so far, though, is the future of Port Allen Mayor Deedy Slaughter. Voters are deciding if there will be a recall election.
Even though Saturday is Election Day, Port Allen voters turned out in record numbers for early voting. Officials reported about 40 percent of registered voters cast their ballots early. Political analyst Jim Engster said this much enthusiasm behind whether or not there will be a recall election is one for the history books.
Engster said although early voter turnout was so high for this election, he expects turnout to be fairly high on Saturday also.
He added the congressional runoff in the fifth district could get pretty interesting, too.
West Feliciana Parish voters will also choose their first parish president this weekend. Republicans Kevin Couhig and Tom McVea are on the runoff ballot.
