BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

A career criminal was sentenced to 15 years in prison on weapons charges.

Joseph Toussaint, 33, was identified as a suspect in an armed robbery at a Baton Rouge apartment complex in January 2012.  When investigators searched his home, a loaded 12 gauge shotgun was found hidden in between mattresses in a bedroom.

Toussaint was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Judge Brian A. Jackson concluded during sentencing that Toussaint used the shotgun in the armed robbery.  He also noted Toussaint's extensive criminal history, including previous convictions for burglary, illegal use of a weapon, and unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling.
