NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - Police are searching for the person who shot and killed a man and his baby boy Wednesday night.
WWL-TV reported the shooting happened on the Crescent City Connection in New Orleans. The victims were identified as Deshawn Butler, 25, and his 7-month-old son, Deshawn Kinard.
The New Orleans Police Department said Butler was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been shot several times. Kinard was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.
According to police, the two victims were riding in the back seat of the car when someone in a dark-colored vehicle opened fire on the car. The driver and front seat passenger were not injured in the shooting.
Detectives reported preliminary information leads them to believe the shooter and Butler knew each other, and that this shooting was not a random attack.
Three lanes of the bridge were shut down for several hours overnight as investigators collected evidence.
Police have not named a suspect. They added a black SUV may have been the vehicle that the gunmen were driving.
The investigation into the deadly shooting is ongoing.
