BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 20-year-old man was arrested for his DWI and drug possession after he attempted to flee police during a traffic stop.
A trooper with the Louisiana State Police attempted noticed a speeding vehicle traveling down Staring Lane on Monday, Nov. 11 shortly before midnight. The trooper initiated a traffic stop, but when he got out of his vehicle to approach the driver, the vehicle took off and continued down Burbank.
Officials say the suspect, later identified as Jordan Winding, eventually stopped on GSRI near Jasper Ave. He got out of the vehicle and started running.
"The trooper was able to apprehend Winding before he entered an apartment building," Trooper Jared Sandifer said. "Once the trooper placed Winding under arrest, he detected a strong odor of alcoholic beverage on his breath. The trooper also discovered that he was carrying several grams of marijuana in his pocket."
Winding refused a breathalyzer test. It was at that point that he was arrested and charged with Underage Driving Under the Influence, Speeding, Flight from an Officer, and Possession of Marijuana. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison as was released after posting a $3,100 bond.
