Tift's Jackson signs with Georgia Tech

National Signing Day isn't until Wednesday, but Tift County point guard Tadric Jackson made it all but academic Monday in Tifton.

The standout guard signed his national letter of intent to play for Brian Gregory and the Jackets this afternoon.

The school won't send in the NLI until Wednesday.

Jackson is close to scoring his 2000th career point, and is the leader of a team again expected to compete for a state title.

With the Blue Devils hoping to make the leap this season, Jackson says he's glad the recruiting process is behind him and he can solely focus on basketball.

"Now I can just play my game. I'm comfortable now. I don't have to worry about any stress," says Jackson. "Now I'm just looking at my high school senior year, trying to make our goals, win region, and try to make it to state."

Jackson is the third Tift County Division I signee in the past two seasons.

Brannen Greene signed with Kansas and Donnell Tuff signed with Gardner-Webb after the 2012-2013 season.

But both of them are now off to their respective campuses, leaving this year's Blue Devils team clearly Jackson's.

The Georgia Tech-bound guard says he's been preparing for that all summer.

"Just leading," Jackson says when asked what he's worked on in the offseason. "Leading my team to our goals of a state championship, something we've been trying to do for a long time."

"He's been our best player since he was a freshman and he will continue to be our best player this year," says Tift Co. head coach Eric Holland. "We're going to ride him this year. We've challenged him to make his teammates better."

Jackson adds he's been working to improve the team around him, and that he's ready for everything that comes with being the team leader.

"I have to take all the criticism. I'm fine taking all the criticism," he says. "I just have to do what [Coach Holland] says, listen, play my best, make my teammates better, and win games."

The Blue Devils will open the 2013 season third in the AAAAAA preseason polls.

Tift County tips off Saturday when they host Thomasville.
