BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Authorities said a man was arrested after his young son called police to report his father allegedly hit his mother while she was holding the boy's 1-month-old baby brother Saturday.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office said Zheng Hao, 49, is charged with domestic abuse aggravated assault and domestic abuse child endangerment. The assault charge is a felony.

The incident happened at a Baton Rouge apartment complex just before 7 p.m.

Deputies said they responded to the apartment and spoke with the 10-year-old boy who had called them. According to the probable cause report, the boy said he saw his father slap his mother and baby brother on different parts of their bodies.

The report stated the boy told investigators his dad stepped back when his mom started fighting back and then threw a laptop at her, which reportedly hit her leg. According to the report, the boy said Hao then grabbed a knife and threatened to kill his mother.

Detectives said they tried to talk to the woman to get her side of the story, but she couldn't speak English well. However, they reported she was able to show them bruises she and the baby suffered, allegedly by Hao. Authorities said the woman refused medical attention for her injuries.

The probable cause report stated Hao admitted to throwing the laptop at the woman. He reportedly said she later walked up, threw the child into his arms and started swinging at him. The report stated he told investigators he felt threatened and that's when he grabbed a kitchen knife. Deputies noted the couple's 5-year-old daughter was also in the room during the alleged attack.

Hao was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the above charges. His bond was set at $7,000. He remained locked up as of Monday morning.
