QUEEN CREEK, AZ (CBS5) -

Queen Creek has a new fire chief.

He's Ron Knight, who replaces Van Summers.

Knight, a 33-year fire veteran, has served as the department's assistant fire chief since the department was started in 2008.

Before joining Queen Creek Fire, Knight served as the assistant fire chief in administration with the city of Chandler and as a deputy chief in operations for the Buckeye Fire Department.

Summers made the decision to leave the fire department to spend more time with his children and grandchildren. He leaves after 40 years in the fire service

The Queen Creek Fire Department includes 30 firefighters at two fire stations and three administrative staff. It serves the 28,000 residents of Queen Creek as well as homes and businesses in the newly created Queen Creek County Island Fire District.
