TUCSON, AZ (AP) -

A Tucson man has been sentenced to 16 years in prison in a deadly home invasion.

Pima County prosecutors say 26-year-old Mario Hipolito Enriquez was sentenced Monday.

He was convicted of second-degree murder for killing 74-year-old William Herr in the November 2010 home invasion.

The Arizona Daily Star reports that at his June trial, Enriquez says he went to Herr's home to help a friend collect a supposed drug debt.

Enriquez's attorney claims his client was defending himself when Herr was shot.

Prosecutors accused Enriquez of lying to police and concocting a cover story to downplay his involvement in Herr's death.

Authorities say Herr was shot four times with an AK-47 semi-automatic rifle and Enriquez then fled to Mexico.

The other suspect in the home invasion is awaiting trial.
