PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - Port Allen officials said Saturday had the highest number of one-day early voters the city has ever seen.
Of the 4,055 registered voters in Port Allen, 649 cast their ballots Saturday.
Included on the ballot is the effort to recall Mayor Deedy Slaughter.
Early voting started Saturday and runs through the upcoming one.
Of the 649 people who early voted, 618 cast their ballots in person and the other 31 were done by mail.
Slaughter took office in January 2013 and her term has been plagued with controversy.
Gov. Bobby Jindal signed a proclamation on September 20 setting November 16 as the date voters could decide whether to recall the mayor.
