Each year, more than 36,000 Americans take their own lives. We recently had two murder-suicides take place in the Baton Rouge area within a week. It's a tragedy that not only ends lives but also leaves loved ones scarred in dealing with the loss.
There is help available. The Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Center provides counselors who offer emotional support and prevention services to those in need. The center partners with the coroner's office and has connected families with other families who have suffered a loss.
Suicide is an uncomfortable subject to talk about and even more difficult to deal with. Experts say reaching out for help is an important step. If you know someone in need of help, call the Baton Rouge Crisis Intervention Hotline at (225) 924-3900.
