The Alabama Department of Public Health says that as of Nov. 1, 2013, the Alabama Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program will resume issuance of three months of food benefits.
Because of the recent federal government shutdown, the program had gone to one-month issuance.
"We appreciate the support and patience of our participants and WIC vendors during this period of budget uncertainty," said Amanda Martin, Alabama WIC Program director.
The program has an average monthly caseload of 139,000 women, infants and children who receive nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and vouchers for healthy and nutritious foods.
"The program is committed to serving our current and future participants," Martin said.
