Report: Food stamp cuts will affect nearly 1 million in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge-based group said nearly 1 million people in Louisiana will see their food stamp benefits cut when a temporary boost expires.

The Louisiana Budget Project provides independent research and analysis of Louisiana fiscal issues and their impact on low and moderate income residents.

About 920,000 people in the state will see a drop in food assistance due to the expiration of the temporary boost for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), according to a news release from the group Thursday.

It added a projected $98 million could be lost by Louisiana families from November through September next year.
