Vitter: EBT users who knowingly stole should be disqualified

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

U.S. Senator David Vitter is calling for aggressive action in the wake of a food stamp card glitch earlier this month.

It happened in Shreveport; people cleared out the shelves at Walmart because of a malfunction wit the food stamp cards. Vitter says Louisiana needs to set an example that abuse of taxpayer funded programs will not be tolerated.

Among the recommendations in a letter to the Attorney General and the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Vitter says food stamp users who knowingly stole groceries during the glitch should be disqualified.

Vitter also says stores that did not follow proper protocol should not be reimbursed.
