BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Baton Rouge couple is taking creative steps to support and mentor disadvantaged and at-risk youth in our community to help them lead productive and successful lives as adults. Chef Chris Wadsworth, formerly of restaurant IPO, and his wife, Sommer, a teacher of disabled children, plan to soon open Triumph Kitchen.
Modeled after Café Reconcile in New Orleans, students will not only learn kitchen skills and how to cook, they will also be provided with lessons in important life skills, such as making a budget, going on a job interview and more. The Wadsworths plan to open Triumph Kitchen in January, using donated space in De La Ronde Hall on Third Street.
After completing a 12-week program, Triumph's students - ranging in age from 16-22 - will continue to get assistance in job placement and career planning. We applaud the Wadsworths for their unselfishness and efforts to better the lives of young people…and hope their actions inspire others in our community to get involved.
