BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Biking is fun for all ages, especially when it is done responsibly.
University Terrace School hosted a safe bike rodeo Monday.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation, Safe Routes to School and lawyer Lexlee Overton provided free bicycle helmets for every student in second through fifth grade at the school.
Beginners were taught how to ride a bike, while others learned to finesse what they already knew.
"The obstacle course teaches them skills such as braking control, using hand signals whenever you're riding your bikes, how to use brakes and how to start to slow down rather than slamming on their brakes," said Crystal Bichon, executive director of Lexlee's Kids.
Everyone is bound to remember the lessons because they were out on bicycles instead of a classroom and all of the students went home with a brand new helmet.
