DAVENPORT, IOWA (WQAD/CNN) - A returning soldier traded in his military fatigues for a cape and a mask, to give his daughter a Halloween surprise she won't soon forget.
Halloween is a time for costumes and candy, but at Jackson Elementary School, there was a real surprise in the works.
That's where Sergeant First Class Dave Wirtz prepared for his big entrance.
But this Davenport dad is no ordinary Spiderman.
He's just back from deployment to Afghanistan and was ready to reunite with his daughter.
"She'd do anything for anybody. Great kid, good at school, has a great imagination," Wirtz said.
As this Spiderman walked into the celebration, he brought a cape for his daughter, Jessie.
"Daddy," his daughter said, once the mask was off and she turned around. "I love you."
Me too, said Wirtz.
This Halloween is special, not spooky. It's something this daddy and daughter will always remember.
"I'm just glad that he's home cause I really missed him," she said.
Better than candy and costumes, a sweet surprise for the Wirtz family.
"Nothing will top it," said Wirtz. I'll remember this the rest of my life, and my daughter will, too."
